Buy Local

We've worked many late nights making this site a creative, fun place on the web where you can easily find some of the best independently owned and operated businesses in the Brandywine Valley. Now let us shift gears and tell you a little bit about what makes us tick, and what this site ultimately is about.

The Brandywine A-List was founded around the idea that buying from local, independent businesses is better for us, for our community, for our nation, and for our world. And, in a marketplace increasingly dominated by national chains and big-box stores, it seems as though we all need to be reminded of the importance of buying local.

When asked what really matters, Americans will often say things like "a safe future for my kids," "treating people with respect," or "a strong, healthy community." Yet, if asked where they spend their money, they're likely to rattle off a list of big-box stores and other national chains that, more often than not, have a greater negative impact on our community than a positive one. You will rarely hear mention of a local, independent business when you ask this question.

We Americans fail to realize that we have more control than we think we do when it comes to matters of our neighbors and neighborhoods, the quality of our communities, our childrens' future, and other important issues. Outside influences have done a great job of convincing us that we can't make a difference. But the reality is we can make a difference, and it's easier than we think.

In order to bring about positive change in our communities, and elsewhere, we need to realize that where we spend our money has a direct impact on the important issues mentioned here, as well as many others. Another way of looking at it is this… every dollar we spend is a vote. And it is certainly in our best interest to vote wisely by buying from local, independent businesses.
